August is one of the most abundant months in the cutting garden, and it’s a beautiful time of year for seasonal wedding flowers.
The garden is full of colour, texture and movement and three of my absolute favourites at this time of year are dahlias, zinnias and cosmos.
Dahlias
Dahlias are the absolute stars of the late-summer garden. I absolutely adore them and always miss them when the first frost comes.
From perfectly formed pom-poms to loose, romantic dinner-plate blooms, they come in an incredible range of colours and shapes. They make beautiful August wedding flowers, adding fullness and that gorgeous just-picked-from-the-garden feeling to bouquets and arrangements.
Zinnias
Zinnia's are another one of my favourites, because they bring colour, texture and a slightly nostalgic cottage-garden feel to a bouquet. They’re also fantastic cut flowers, and last exceptionally well out of water making them the perfect flowers for buttonholes, bridal bouquets and the wedding cake.
I love the way their strong, colourful blooms balance softer, more delicate flowers.
Cosmos
If dahlias bring the drama, cosmos bring the movement.
Their delicate petals and long, slender stems dance around the other flowers, creating that relaxed, natural look I love so much.
Cosmos are perfect for wildflower-inspired wedding flowers, particularly if you want your bouquet to feel loose, romantic and a little bit untamed... If she is facing the floor... it's because she wants too!
August flowers, grown with the season
For me, this is what makes seasonal wedding flowers so special.
Rather than forcing flowers to fit a particular colour palette or style, we can look at what’s naturally blooming and create something that feels completely connected to the time of year.
Dahlias, zinnias and cosmos are just three of the beautiful flowers August can offer and together, they create the most gorgeous late-summer combination.
